Mittan - Layered Reversible Robe, Brown (Unisex)

£316.67

Made in Japan

Lead by a designer Takeshi Mitani, Mittan makes "modern folk clothing" based on histories of clothes and fabrics from the world. By reinterpreting the two-dimensional structure and combining it with the functionality of natural materials, Mittan aims to create long-lasting clothes that are not bound by the transient trends of the times. They work very closely with the manufactures and often develop original fabrics. Fabrics are often dyed using plants, indigo, insects, minerals, and charcoal in addition to ordinary dyes. We consider the uneven transition of colours beautiful and adding characters to garments.

The fabric used for this robe is original of Mttan, it has 3 layers of different materials. The layers of fabrics are attached to each others with water soluble threads while being sewn into a garment as one piece. Once done, threads get dissolved and a fabric layers separate into 3 layers. Taking advantage of each material's functionality, warm wool are placed outside, silk in the inner where it touches the skin and cotton linen in the middle to separate the layers. Air gets trapped between the layers and keep you warm in it.

The collar is sewn continuously and has almost no seams other than that of the raglan sleeves. Therefore, it can be worn by many people regardless of body shapes. All seams are lettuce edge and can be worn reversibly. There are many ways to wear this piece, the inner fabric can be tied with a string, or the outer fabric can be worn like a cape.

Hand wash recommended.
