Made in Laos
A beautifully woven bag made by local craftspeople in northern Laos. Made from finely woven kudzu fibre, it is an expandable and suprisingly hard wearing bag made by remarkably skilled hands.
Kudzu is a fast-growing jungle vine native to East Asia and many Pacific islands that has traditionally been used for basking and bag making. Larger branches and vines are chosen for their ability to produce strong and flexible weaving material. Each branch is split in half, where the fibres are extracted from the pulp. The fibres are dried, rehydrated with hot water and spun by hand, before being woven into bags. From vine to bag, it takes about two weeks to make each piece.
