Made in Japan
Lead by a designer Takeshi Mitani, Mittan makes "modern folk clothing" based on histories of clothes and fabrics from the world. By reinterpreting the two-dimensional structure and combining it with the functionality of natural materials, Mittan aims to create long-lasting clothes that are not bound by the transient trends of the times. They work very closely with the manufactures and often develop original fabrics. Fabrics are often dyed using plants, indigo, insects, minerals, and charcoal in addition to ordinary dyes. We consider the uneven transition of colours beautiful and adding characters to garments.
Using two kinds of hemp, flax and ramie, it achieves a good amount of tension and moderate thickness. It has a belt loop to withstand its own weight, though the elastic waist and string on the inside allow it to be worn without a belt. Because of the tapered cut, it gives a clean silhouette. You can also adjust by roll-up at the hem, and you can wear it all year round by adjusting the inner layer.
This classic trousers features elastic waist band, inner drawstring and side pockets. There is a natural unevenness created by dyeing with Kishu Binchotan charcoal and pigments together. Colour transfer might occur with friction, but it will calm down with use.
