Mittan Shirt - Natural Bengara Dye

£250.00

Made in Japan

Led by designer Takeshi Mitani, Mittan makes "modern folk clothing" based on histories of clothes and fabrics from the world. By reinterpreting the two-dimensional structure and combining it with the functionality of natural materials, Mittan aims to create long-lasting clothes that are not bound by the transient trends of the times. They work very closely with the manufactures and often develop original fabrics.

For this dress, hemp yarn is used for both warp and weft. Hemp is a strong fiber, but it gradually soften up over time that you can enjoy the change in texture. The characteristic of hemp fabric continues even after many washing, making it comfortable to wear in hot weather.

Fabrics are dyed in natural pigments bengara (mud dye made of natural minerals derived from the soil) and fixed with natural rubber, therefore there is a natural unevenness. The buttons are all hand-sewn using thin white pearl oysters.
