I N D I G O
with Sarah Holt & Gemma Holt

Sarah Holt studied Textiles at Goldsmiths College London and, seven years ago, started her weaving journey. She works on a two-shaft floor loom and an eight-shaft table loom, making textiles to be treasured in the home. She works with natural fibres such as linen, cotton, silk and found materials like vintage linen. Living near the sea, she takes inspiration from her surroundings and journeys,  photographing, sketching and collecting foraged items that have been forgotten or dismissed. Pieces she makes reflect the interesting textures and patina she finds on aged walls, drift wood, and weathered boats. Resulting pieces are something simple, intricate and beautiful imperfection in cloth.

Gemma Holt studied Design Products at the Royal Collage of Art, London. She works using a wide range of materials and processes. Her design approach is rational and creates something with purity. Gemma spent some time in Bali, Indonesia, this summer where she joined an indigo dying workshop. Coming back to London, she continued with the experiments and invited Sarah to join for a dyeing session. This is when the idea of having a sister show came up.

For this exhibition, Sarah has woven a beautiful Noren and coasters from the silk and cotton yarns she dyed, while Gemma has made tufted mats from wool yarn. The beautiful gradients of blue has transformed our window space with their delicate, elegant and playful work.
