Made in Mie, Japan
Japanese tea cups from Mie, a region famous for Banko ware-ceramics made using the area's iron-rich purple clay (yellow in colour before firing).
Purple clay can withstand very high temperatures, meaning it doesn't shrink or become dense when fired. The resulting porousness of Banko ware encourages interaction between the minerals of the clay and the water in tea, making for a cup of tea that tastes softer and with a more mellow, enhanced flavour.
- Earthenware often needs extra care. We recommend you wash these cups by hand and don’t use them in the oven, microwave or freezer
