The series of hand-knotted seating mats made by Gemma Holt is part of the exhibition INDIGO by the sisters Sarah Holt and Gemma Holt.
Gemma Holt studied Design Products at the Royal Collage of Art, London. She works using a wide range of materials and processes. Her design approach is rational and creates something with purity.
Gemma spent some time in Bali, Indonesia, this summer where she joined an indigo dying workshop. Coming back to London, she continued with the experiments and invited her sister Sarah Holt to join for a dyeing session.
For the exhibition, Gemma hand-knotted one yarn by one to make three seating mats from wool she hand-dyed in indigo.
