Radiometer is a device used to measure the intensity of radiant energy. Invented in 1873 by the chemist Sir William Crookes as the by-product of some chemical research. It consists of an airtight glass bulb containing a partial vacuum, with a set of rotor blades which are mounted on a spindle inside. The blades rotate when exposed to light, with faster rotation for more intense light, providing a quantitative measurement of electromagnetic radiation intensity.
Using crystal Lauscha glass, these balls are hand made by skilled glassblowers in Thuringia, Germany. The glass foot consists of crystal glass.
