Hand-Thrown Shallow Bowl
£78.00
Made in England
Hand-thrown in stoneware and wood-fired. Great for pasta, salad or serving sharing meals.
The site of a pottery dating back to the early 1800's makes it one of the longest running craft potteries in the country making practical domestic stoneware.
The pottery is established in 1926 by Michael Cardew who had been training under Bernard Leach the last three years. With the help of two locals, Cardew rented the pottery buildings and the bottle kiln and restarted the pottery that was closed during the war. Cardew’s ambition was to make pottery for everyday use and at a price that ordinary people could afford. Using the clay on site and firing the pots in the bottle kiln, the range and skills quickly developed. Since then, many potters who eventually became well known joined there, including Sydney Tustin and Ray Finch.
Now, the pottery concentrate on making stoneware using wood fired kiln with philosophy of Cardew alive.
- microwave safe
- dishwashers safe
- not to be used under grills or on hot-plates or naked flames
Approx. H6.5 cm Ø22.5cm
Please note that the appearance of the glaze varies on each firing, depending on thickness of the glaze applied, temperatures and all other factors. Due to the nature of handmade, each piece won't look exactly same as shown here.
