Made in London
Hollie Ward is an award-winning hand weaver originally from Hull and now based in south London. Hollie creates items which are referred to as artefacts made by one pair of hands. The work aims to question how we form relationships with and attachments to objects.
She often uses inspirational women to inform her practice, in this instance, absorbing herself in the work of artist, Sophie Calle and responding accordingly.
Calle has said, “I am just trying to have as much of a poetic life as I can” - Ward lead with this to the inform the romanticism of the act of weaving, deeply rooted in Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, weaving can be used as an act of power, of love, of determination and of course, of skill.
For The Sophie Collection, created especially for Momosan Shop, Ward chose a selection of deadstock British lambswool and cashmere, alongside bolder cottons and boucles to create varying textures through the softest of fibres. Suitable for displaying or using daily, the work is hoped to inspire, and to be passed down through generations. To be loved, used, repaired. To carry the tales of life within it.
